Re: Add a Map to your DotNetNuke site - Video #226

One additional tip... The embedding of Google maps on a site calls a bunch of javascript and can slow down the page load time. I typically just take a 'screen shot' of the map and optimize that image. Then, I just add the image in an HTML module, style it and add the link to the actual map on Google's site. This gives you the Google map 'look and feel' without all the javascript/page load issues. FYI.

Using Bob's approach appears to me to violate Google Maps/Earth Terms of Service (www.google.com/intl/en_us/help/terms_maps.html) and copyright law. What am I missing?

Hi Brad, I'm not a lawyer nor I have read the terms, but I would assume that if you leave the Google credits intact at the bottom of the map image, you would be covered. Completely personal thought though, so use it at your own risk :)

Hi Aderson, I'm pretty certain that your assumption is incorrect. Google's terms clearly forbid copying their content. The only exception I can find is for those who get prior written authorization.

If I copied your videos & posted them on my website, my site's visitors could see them w/out seeing the ads from your sponsors. My site might become more popular, & I could get more $ from ads. Meanwhile, your site might become less popular (because people could get your videos from me), so your revenue might go down. I guessing you would not like that.

See the reason Google doesn't allow copying their maps?

It does make sense Brad. BTW, feel free to put my videos on your site. ;)

- Bob! No mapping copying for you! :) Follow the video instructions and you will be fine.
