Re: Understanding Portal Alias in DotNetNuke - Video #145

Hi

On your live site you have the 2 aliases
www.dnnhero.com and dnnhero.com

But how does it look in IIS when you have a hostname without "/...." ?
For the default web-site I assume you have the binding ip - port 80 with an "empty" hostheader. How do your virtual applications look?
Normally you have you have a virtualApp eg. "DNN61" pointing to
C:\inetpub\wwwroot\dnn61 and an alias "localhost\dnn61" and you can access the page over "http://localhost\dnn61".

I hope you understand my question and can help me.
(my live site is www.gibel.net => in IIS I have a http-redirection to \\www.gibel.net\dnn61 => I want that users don't see the "\dnn61" - part!)

Thanks a lot
André

Re: Understanding Portal Alias in DotNetNuke - Video #145

Hi André,

You have two options:

1 - You should setup your site directly in the root folder of your site www.gibel.net - Not under www.gibel.net\dnn61;

or

2 - Change the root of your site www.gibel.net to www.gibel.net/dnn61

I'm inclined to suggest #1 above.

Aderson

Hi Muhammad,

To setup a DNN site you will need the install package. That's it!

Now if you are a developer and want's to create your own modules, you may need DNN source code to use as a strategy to develop module. More on that you can find at www.mitchelsellers.com/blogs/articletype/articleview/articleid/171/wap-or-wsp-which-to-use-and-why.aspx

Re: Understanding Portal Alias in DotNetNuke - Video #145

Hi Aderson,
Can I use an existing URL as the URL of my website created by using DotNetNuke?

Thanks,

Jane

Hi Jane,

If by URL you main Domain, yes sure, no problem.

If by URL you mean the full URL of existing pages, then you may have to use a module like iFinity Url Master: store.dotnetnuke.com/home/product-details/ifinity-url-master-25---total-dotnetnuke-url-solution?r=73311e2a326b411fbbb4
