Hi, I cannot find any videos on how to move a site to another domain. Example:

If you would like to move your dnn website from www.example.com to www.example.org

Which steps to follow?

Hi Benzo,

You are correct. There is no video on that.

But actually the steps are not that complex. I will list here what comes to mind:

1 - You need to create a new "site alias" under admin/site settings

2 - Now it is outside of DNN - On your hosting control panel (from your site hosting provider) you have to find a way to replace www.example.com by www.example.org - I can't list steps here because each hosting provider will have their own way of doing this. It is different from hosting to hosting. No "one-size-fits-all"

 Regards,

Aderson

 Thank you.

Are there no general things for all hostingsproviders? Such copying the database, configure the web.config, copying all files.

If you were moving to another hosting provider or to another account within the same hosting company, then yes:

1 - Backup the database and the site files;

2 - Restore them on your new account;

3 - Change the web.config connection string to match your new database;

4 - Add the new domain to the PortalAlias table;

But according to your description, you were not moving the site, just changing the domain.

Cheers,

Aderson

Sorry, I meant if you would like to move whole site another domain. Not just pointing to a new website, but completly moving it.

Example: you have www.example.com and want to move it to: www.newwebsite.com

But you still want to keepthe origanal site: www.example.com on the same domain, while you at the same time want to move its content to another domain e.g. www.newwebsite.com

Could you be more specific or make a video on how to do it? :)
