I’ve been a member of DNN Hero for about 3 years now and haven’t really used your services but I would really appreciate your help now. I’ve been running DNN version 05.06.08 for a the site studentcoaching.co.uk on a dedicated server and I now wish to install a new DNN version on the same server. This site will be using a different domain but will eventually replace studentcoaching.co.uk. Please can you advise the best procedures for achieving this? I’m trying to achieve the following points.

Keep the old site running
Install the latest version of DNN Community edition
Work on the new site without going live until finished

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind regards

Phil Dawson

Hi Phil,

Here is what I would do:

1 - You said you have a "different domain" - So set it up (DNS) to point to the same server;

2 - Use your control panel or IIS directly (not sure what you have there) to setup a new site on the server pointing to the new domain;

3 - Install the latest DNN version;

4 - Build the site up;

5 - Once the site is done, you could potentially just repoint things over on IIS (don't forget to create the new site alias on the new site pointing to studentcoaching.co.uk) - Or if you use a control panel, you could copy the new site on top of the old site.

I have oversimplifies things here so this can become short, but as you go along, if you have any additional question, just ask.

Cheers,

Aderson

I've managed to install a new version of DNN on the dedicated server by following your steps but I'm after the install, the page keeps reloading with the login pop up, now I'm getting a 404 file or directory not found when trying to login, here is the link www.sojellyfish.com

Hi Philip,

You need someone to be able to look at the server and site and troubleshoot it. With just that information we cannot help you much unfortunately.

My only guess is that something went wrong with the new site's installation and you should try again.

Best regards,

Aderson

I've managed to resolve the problem by changing the <module> to <runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true"> in the web.config file

I found this information  http://stackoverflow.com/questions/20323049/hosting-dnn-application-in-iis-getting-404-error-on-login-click

Are you aware of this problem with DNN and can you advise if their will be any other issues that may occur from making this change?

I've also discovered the same is also used to fix the edit mode problem, see here http://www.smarterasp.net/support/kb/a344/how-to-fix-dnn-7-unable-to-go-to-edit-mode-issue.aspx

Look forward to hearing your thoughts
