 @Steve

Just open web.config file and make a change. then undo the change and save the file. (for example: hit space and backspace). browse to the page. it will recompile, and the error should be gone.

Thank you for your reply.

 

I didn't see this error for months but it suddenly appeared on a site on my local machine last week. I think i ended up restarting IIS.

 

i will try your solution next time, which is a easier. But I wish I knew what caused the error in the first place. i have only seen this on my local machine, so far, hopefully it will stay that way :-)
