I need to set up a page in a DNN7 site that automatically displays some text that is associated with the user that is logged in. For instance, the user logs in and when they go to the ??? page they will see a code number that is specifically for that user. I was thinking of placing that text info into the bio field in the user account info. If I do that, is there a way I can display that line of text on a page? OR, is there a better way to do this?

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,

You could create a new custom field for the user profile. Check this video for instructions on that:

How to add more field on the user profile

On DNN 7 you can find the same on the Admin/Site Settings.

Then you can use the token replacement feature of dnn to disply it. Here is another video for that:

How to use the token replacement feature in DotNetNuke

This worked.  So I tried to take it a little farther by adding a rich text field in the user profile named Document.  Then I created a user and put a hypertext link to a pdf in the new field named Document.  I added an HTML module to a page, added [User:Document] into the Basic Text Box for the module to display the hypertext link.  When I viewed the page I got this message…

Error accessing [User:Document], Document is unknown for datasource User.

Any ideas why this didn’t work?  Any ideas on how to accomplish this?

Thanks

Chris

Try [Profile:Document] instead of [User:Document]
