Hello

I'm trying to set up email on a site I am developing on my local machine.

I've followed a video tutorial:
http://www.dnnhero.com/Videos/EntryId...

The steps  I took are:

  1. host > host settings > basic tab > host details > set the host email address
  2. goto smtp server settings
  3. advanced settings > smtp server and port = smtp.gmail.com
  4. SMTP Enable SSL: should be checked
  5. username: email address i.e. my email address
  6. set password

The event log gives the error as: System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: Server does not support secure connections

I assume it is possible to send email from my local machine? Not sure what to check now.

Best Regards,

Steve

Hi Steve,

As far as I know Windows  doesn't come normally with SMTP service. So I'm not sure if that would work locally on a machine without SMTP service running.

BTW, I was never able to run emails from local sites, but I may not have tried hard enough.

Cheers,

Aderson

Hi Aderson,

Thank you for your reply.

I was thinking about it afterwards, perhaps its an IIS setting. But I have decided toto leave and do that testing when I go live.

Thanks once again.

Steve
