I have a client who is hosting their current DNN site on PowerDNN.  They have asked me to design and build a completely new DNN site.  I want to develop this site on my 3Essentials dedicated server using a domain name I own so that the client can look at the site and collaborate with me as we go.  I don't want them to have to mess with thier Hosts file to see the dev site.  Once we are done, I will need to move this development site from the 3E servers to thier existing PDNN server and use thier existing domain name.  Is there a way to do this without disrupting thier current live site?

Hi Hutch,

How about you do this:

1 - On 3E you could setup a temporary domain like myclient.yourdomain.com and develop the new DNN site there;

2 - Once the new site is finished, just add your client's domain as a site alias ion the new site;

3 - Then you could copy the site files and database and ask PowerDNN to move the new site files over to replace the old site;

I hope this makes sense to you.

Cheers,

Aderson

I think so.  So create a subdomain on 3E (customerdev.mysite.ca.ca).  Sometime before i move it to PowerDNN set up an alias within DNN.  Is that right?

That is correct. And then copy it over to PowerDNN.
