Hi There,

When I try to access a page through https protocol I am getting the following error

The URL requested is : https://localhost/Banking/savingaccounts.aspx

The resource cannot be found.

Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.  Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

Requested URL: /Banking/savingaccounts.aspx

So far I've done the following settings ;

1. Added a Self signed certificate in IIS 7

2. Enabled SSL and SSL enforced settings through Admin -> Site Settings -> Advance Settings

3. Checked Secure box in other settings of  the page edit options

All works fine when I disable the SSL setting of the page and access the page through http://localhost/banking/savingaccounts.aspx

Am I missing something ?

Hi Amey,

In terms of DNN you did all what you had to do. I don't see anything missing.

But what I'm not sure is the part of setting up a local certificate. That I have not trying before nor I'm aware of how to go about that. This would be outside of the DNN scope.

What I recommend you to do is to ensure your local certificate is working fine. You could get rid of the dnn site and just try to access regular .HTML pages via a secure URL locally and see if that works. If that works, them the problem should be within DNN. If that doesn't work then you need to fix your local certificate setup as it is the one with problems.

Best regards,

Aderson

Hi Aderson,

Thanks for your quick reply, As per your suggestion I hosted few HTML pages in IIS  and accessed them via https (self signed ssl certificate) those are working fine.

Also to further mention when I can access the dotnetnuke portal by just typing https://localhost I am able to access the default dotnetnuke page.

What I don't understand is why the browser is omitting the first part of the URL (https://localhost) and just sending the request as banking/savingaccounts.aspx  as shown in the error message.

I have not applied any URL rewrite rules for the site and I'm using DNN version 5.6.0

Regards,

Amey

Hi Amey,

I have setup SSL on servers with DNN quite a few times already and they all worked fine. Unfortunately I have never done that on the local environment. So I'm not really sure what else you could try on your local system unfortunately. :(
