Hello,

Recently I installed a new instance of 7.4 on my local then immediately upgraded to the latest version of 8. I tried bulk installing a bunch of javascript libraries and got an error. I looked and sure enough the install files aren't there. On my production sites I have purposefully removed these files for security purposes however whenever I production installs I replace those files, bulk install, then remove again. I'd like to know why they aren't there on a fresh install. I tried googling dnn8 bulk install but nothing came up. Do you think I could use the files from another installation? Is it possible I'm missing something?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Michael,

I need a bit more context and to ensure I understand what you mean. Questions:

1 -  What do you mean by "bulk installing"?

2 - Which javascript libraries are those and which files are these that you said were not there?

Again, just trying to be in sync with you.

Cheers,

Aderson

Thanks for the reply.

If you're not familiar DNN comes with a 'bulk installer'. There may be another term but that's what I refer to it as. It allows you to drop multiple modules, javascript libraries, ect into the appropriete folder under Install. Once there all you do is navigate to YOURWEBSITEURL/install/install.aspx?mode=installresources. You'll see a page like this:

My question doesn't have anything to do with the javascript libraries (which by the way are all AngularJS I converted for use with DNN) but why the install aspx files aren't there.

I feel like because of the recent hack found which used these files the people at DnnSoftware.com removed them. I've attached a snippet of the email in question regarding the issue:

I think it's logical to assume this feature was removed. I'd like to test and see if the old files from a previous install will still function on my new site.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thank you Michael,

Now I know exactly what you mean, however I'm not sure if by copying those files whether or not they will work. I had a look and as far as I can see they should work, but I din't try. Just guess work here.

Over time I expect DNN to bring the bulk feature back in a more secure way though.

If you try it let us know how it goes.

Cheers,

Aderson

Hello again,
I just wanted to confirm for everyone that you can in fact drop the missing files into the install folder and it works without a problem. I tried this today on a brand new install of version 8.0.

Thanks.
