I am not sure how much an MSDN subscription is but if you need to drop a chunk on software you might want to look into joining the network so you have access to everything (or whatever subset you select) and upgrades.  I don't know how the price point compares but it would be worth checking out.  If it's financially feasible, it's the way to go.
