Having a real issue on a dnn 7.3 site.  Google webmaster showing crawl errors for any page with and - (dash) in url.  pages work fine but show up without dash Tried chaning web config to advanced but still no luck1

Site is http://www.lukenewmanlaw.com

Google crawl error example

http://www.lukenewmanlaw.com/Areas-of-Practice/Theft-Crimes   can't crawl

Works fine when you go to http://www.lukenewmanlaw.com/AreasofPractice/TheftCrimes

Hi Greg,

Did you ever had pages with Dashes on your site?

I ask this because those might be just older pages that Google has cached and it still tries to index.

If not, you need to find out where are those Dashed links being created at. Maybe a page on your site. Maybe an external site. Google doesn't guess those links. It finds them somewhere on the web and that is why it tries to craw them.

Cheers,

Aderson

Hi,

It is a new site and to the best of my knowledge it did have dashes.  I checked on my other DNN 7+ sites and all sub pages work with and without dashes.   In this case every sub page shows crawler errors!

Hi Greg,

If you want I can have a close look at it. Please send me host and FTP access to the site to my email "aderson at dnnhero dot com"

Cheers,

Hi Greg,

Thanks to the access information. I think it is all working now. I have done 2 changes:

1 - On the web.config, go to the DNNFriendlyUrl entry and change the urlFormat parameters from "HumanFriendly" to "advanced"

2 - Set "Dash" as the character that would replace spaces within the page URL by running the following SQL statement:

UPDATE HostSettings
SET SettingValue = '-'
WHERE SettingName = 'AUM_ReplaceSpaceWith'

Seems all good now as far as I can see.

Why did it get to be set like that in the first place? That I'm not sure.

Cheers,

Aderson
