I am performing an upgrade from 7.1.2 to 7.4.0 but get an immediate DNN Error - return to site after FTPing the files to the site.

I've tried small step upgrades from 7.1.2 before and had the same, I was naively hoping a bigger jump might work

Anybody experience similar or have any ideas. Is it possible 3rd Party modules are causing an issue. Is it worth deleting any unused modules?

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Hi Dave,

It could be a 3rd party module, but just based on "DNN Error" message it is not porrible to troubleshoot.

I recommend that you try these 7 Techniques to troubleshoot problems on your DNN website so you can find more information about the error.

Best regards,

Aderson

Hi Aderson

Brilliant the trouble shooting videos were invaluable, Especially No.5 in this case

Added the /Install/InstallWizard.aspx?mode=none to the site after FTP update files across

I got this error -

System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: format at System.String.Format(String format, Object arg0) at DotNetNuke.Services.Install.InstallWizard.Initialise() at DotNetNuke.Services.Install.InstallWizard.OnLoad(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint)

Now I'm not particularly good at interpreting Martian :-)

Any ideas welcomed

Dave

Hi Dave,

Great that the techniques helped a bit.

This is a cryptic error message I have to tell you, but I can infer one thing from it. One is that it is trying to run the initial DNN setup wizard but not able to. What is happening here? Are you moving a site to another location? Are you creating a brand new site? Give me a bit more context.

Thanks,

Aderson

Hi Aderson

This DNN installation has been hosted on the same platform for a number of years, and I have regularly upgraded, indeed taking it from SQL 2005 to 2008.

I wonder if there is some new pre-requisite for 7.4.x and maybe I need to speak to the hosting company about something

Thanks

Dave
