Creating a new skin package

Thank you for your reply.

I suspect those files are not necessary for my purposes, so I will look at removing them.

I'd always assumed skins/themes and container would install together, a separate container package is a minor inconvenience. But if I can generate the container package then look and see if the two can be combined. If that's possible.

Hi Habyb,

I don't know of any module for that specific need, but if I were you I would do a hack. I would add a bit of CSS to each page to change the image background of the skin you are using.

As I said, it is a hack. Not beautiful but it would work.

1 - You can just create the "images" folder under Admin/File Manager;

You are better to ask that to the vendor as different vendors may have different interpretations of this but I understand that this can be used in one and only one DNN instance. If you try to use it on another one it may not work or at the very least you will be breaking their terms and conditions.

Funny that this is such a basic and simple design, yet I don't know a DNN theme that has similar attributes.

If I were you I would get a skin like this one: http://demo7.dnngo.net/Default.aspx?a... and try to make it simpler.

If I had to do that I would be looking for skins that have home page variations that center aligned the menu, which to me it the "sticking point" of the theme you have showed me.

Beyond that, it is more about using the right imagery than anything else.

If you are not, then you would be better using a module like DNNSmart Mobile Redirect. It can do what you need, not based on size but based on device (desktop/tablet/mobile)

Hi Chris,

With Javascript and jQuery, sky is the limit. What you seem to be looking for is some custom container that will have that embedded. I haven't seem anything like that yet.

But here is what I found that might be able to help you out doing that: Allow users to change font size in a webpage

Of course those concepts would have to be adjusted accordingly to only apply inside the container, but that is where further jQuer and Javascript would be required to make this work as you asked.

Hi Steve,

I have not used them before but I'm usually impressed with the quality of their work. Their skins are impressive and the video you posted the link is really very comprehensive.

I like the fact that they have color schemes (not just 1 single color, but a set that works together well). You get a lot of flexibility from our themes out there, but you have to be good at picking a good matching color scheme. In their case they bring a pre-set of themes of colors that goes together nicely. And you can modify them as you see fit.

I wonder though why they are not very active on the DNN store. Their last skin there is dated from 2013.

Hi Allen,

I have custom build that one, but if you know a bit of HTML/CSS and Javascript, it is not that hard. Some pointers:

1 - I'm just using a simple HTML input box with some nice CSS3 formatting like the rounded corners;

2 - Then I captured the click on the magnifier glass with some jQuery and I change the browser URL to the search URL plus the search term - The end result could be something like /Search-Results?Search=TERM - where TERM is the searched keyword.

Here is the jQuery I have used. Unfortunately if you are not a bit familiar with javascript, this will not look that simple:

Yes. It is a bit confusing. The checkbox for 'ShowImageManager' doesn't seem to take effect. You have to choose 'Image Manager' from the dropdown in 'Default Dialog'.

4 - All 3 are using "Gravity - Title_h2 container"

The menu works fine. Not sure which step here is different from yours.

I agree with both Gerald and Paul. Artisteer has made the DNN job much simpler for me.

I did learn the basics of skin design and setup an initial layout for our DNN site. As soon as it was finished, here come the "can you change the font/color/background" for this or that.

I am not a HTML/CSS kinda guy and going into those products to produce a change to me is just time wasted!

Developing the aesthetics of a web site is not what the job is about to me. The ability for our users to add or view their content and the flow of that information is what counts.

Artisteer makes the aesthetics part of the job almost trivial once you learn the product. I will not say I am an expert, but I can easily change what the user wants with little effort. Sometimes it may be a “grin and bear it”, but, it gets done.
